Right, I get the taking everything apart is easy. But what I'm asking and need to know is how big the self locking nut is....it's not 1 1/8 and I don't have anything bigger and neither does lowes or home depot. Without knowing what size socket I need I'm at a stand still as far as getting this done.

Just a tip... get one of these 6" Digital Caliper with SAE and Fractional Readings
It takes the guess work out of it and I find I use it more than I ever thought I would.
Sorry I don't know the size of the nut, if I had my drive shaft off I would check for you.

Yea no worries....it just sucks because I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but I'm stuck at the moment. I'm calling some autoparts stores today to see about specialty sockets, etc. Kinda grasping for straws here!

Do you have a shifting wrench? Use that to gauge the nut size and then go down to a store and find a socket to match. I normally buy odd sized sockets loose at Tractor Supply, they have all the big ones you may need.

FINALLY! It's 1 1/2. I actually called the LR dealership here and spoke with their mechanic as I stood in TSC yesterday looking at sockets. He said it was 1 3/8, but that seemed wrong so I bought both....good thing I did. Tried to loosen it yesterday with no luck, so it soaked in PB Blaster overnight. Hoping to finally get this thing off after work! Thanks for the help guys

Almost done. Now I only have one more part to replace. Can anyone tell me what this rubber ring is called and where I can get another?

Just slap it back in, it's just a dust cover for the centering bearing. I think the only place you will get one is at a dealer.

I would but it's cracked and the metal base is warped, so I'd feel better if it was replaced. I'd feel better if it was new...I really don't want to do this for a third time
