Default Driveshaft

Hey guys I have one of the heavy duty great basin rovers front driveshafts to install and don't know if I should go to a mechanic or not, is it really just as easy as unbolting 8 bolts taking it out and then screwing it back in?

It’s that easy. Got for it.

Easy peasy and make sure you install it correctly... double cardan end attached at transfer case.

Looking at doing this this weekend as well. Do you just use a 9/16 socket and wrench, or do you need a special tool? I saw Lucky8 has a special driveshaft removal tool on their website but I didn't buy it because pricing seemed exorbitant.

special tool is not necessary but did make it a little easier as it's thinner to ensure solid engagement on the nut (if I remember correctly)

A long extension will work. I blocked my rear tires jacked up the front so the front tire was just off the ground then rotated the tire with my foot to get the socket set. Use a wrench on another nut to lock it in place.

It took me a whole hour, including greasing and a test drive.

Have it and love it fits in nice and tight and makes getting at the nuts with my impact a breeze.

As far as procedure, here's what I'd planned:
1. Chock back wheels, leave transmission in neutral, parking brake engaged
2. Jack up passenger front wheel and fit axle stand
3. Remove 8 bolts, rotating passenger front wheel as necessary to gain access to all nuts at differential side
4. Refit new part with replacement hardware as supplied

Very easy. I am an IT geek with little mechanical ability and was able to swap it out in short order. Good luck!
