Default Driving with CDL after botched Fr-D.S. rebuild

So I went to friends house to rebuild my drive shaft we pulled it and it gave us hard time to get the front u-joint out and we noticed that the yoke was bent and the hole was oval shaped not circular and there was a crack. So instead or reinstalling it to get home I had to engage the CDL. Driving home I noticed a clang when I got off the gas and sometimes when I hit the gas. I crawled under it this morning and didn't notice anything leaking or broke. I am looking for any ideas to what the clang was or if driving 2hrs w/the CDL was harmful?

No its not harmful.

I wouldn't jam on the gas though. its a lot of weight to put pressure on the rotoflex.

The clank could be slack in the drive shaft. I would get under and see if you have excessive play

So it is a "normal" noise I was thinking my T-case was getting shredded as I drove.

I drove a D1 from Chattanooga to Atlanta with no gear oil..no telling how long it had been without gear oil..removing the front shaft isn't going to shred a LT230, it's the toughest part of the rover. I'm not exactly sure why the front diff makes that noise with the shaft out, just get the shaft repaired and back in there ASAP.

I am curious to know what did that to the yoke, they are fairly strong so it had to be something big to cause that sort of bend.

It looks like the flange is ok (I can't tell for sure). If it is you can have a new yoke welded to the shaft.
