driving gear shifter running hot
I have a 97 disco series 1 with 130k on it. My question is when I'm driving for about an hour or so, I would feel underneath my driving shifter stick (P, R, N, 3, 2, 1) that its running hot. The metal piece underneath it would run hot. Is that normal? Oh yeah, I have it in high lock(normal driving) all the time when i'm driving around the city and highway.

Well you are going to get heat from the transmisison and exhaust building up under the truck to some extent.
I have never noticed my gear shifter getting hot but I have never checked before either.
The "hump" where the transmission is gets warm if I rest my leg on it, but thats normal.
But here is the question, is your parking brake lever getting hot?
There is a electrical ground under the truck right in that area and it can short out on the parking brake cable, rare but it can happen.

No, I don't have my CDL stuck on LOCK mode(HI or LO). Well, I just realized it when i was driving for about an hour or so and went through a drive thru and grab some change that's been sitting next to my gear shift throughout the trip. It was really hot to touch. (didn't burnt my finger though). Just wanted to know if anybody else is experiencing it or if this is just normal on all D1s. I do have lots of transmission fluid on it and wasn't towing anything.
