Default Drop oil pan to remove timing chain cover?

I'm replacing head gaskets on my 2001 Disco II SE and just curious if anyone knows whether you can remove the timing chain housing without having to drop the oil pan. I still have my oil pan in place and even though the timing cover is loose, it seems that something is still holding it pretty firmly in place. I definitely don't want to pry on it. All of the nuts at the oil pan which belong to the timing cover have been removed and all bolts for the timing cover have been removed as well. The oil lines have also been removed. I can't get the cover to come any more forward off the pegs and just wondered whether the lower studs on the timing cover going through the oil pan can prevent it from being pulled out and upward in order to remove it.

Has anyone removed the timing cover on a Disco II without dropping the pan?

Take the oil pan off...you have an oil pickup attached to the front cover.

Pan comes off, unbolt the sump line from the block, disconnect the line to the cover. Be careful, the PO of my truck managed to bend mine in the process somehow.
