E85 conversion could it work on a disco?
Hi to all...
Hey I just found in the web an E85 conversion kit... that it states that can be done in the discovery 2 engines.... but... have my concerns....and first I like to hear from you guys, your opinion...
first of all... Does any one already convert a Disco to E85?
What could be the "problems" related to the use of E85?
It is safe for the engine, this old, my Disco is a '01....
Well I be tempted to try it, but always is better listen to an opinion of someone with more experience....
Thanks for reading...
and Happy Holidays ....

My question would be why would you want to do this?
It is not that much cheaper than regular fuel.
You will definitely loose some low end power.
You will need to have more e85 in your cylinders than regular fuel to get the same performance.
Its not practical because not all fueling stations carry e85.
And the list goes on & on.

I have a friend with a Chevy HHR, it is E-85 compatible, it has a onboard computer that gives him MPG, he gets the same MPG in the city with E-85 as regular gas, on the highway he gets almost half the MPG with E-85 as regular gas.
So based on that if you only drive in the city it might be worth it, if you drive mixed city/highway it will not be worth it.

Usually the "kits" come with a computer box that runs inline with the injectors. It take the signal for fuel and lengthens it to supply the higher volume needed to keep the e85 from running the engine too lean.

I guess coming from the Audi high boost world I don't trust those 'inline boxes' that tweak the signal. iMHO the only way to run it properly is a new file loaded on the ecu. Again this is just my opinion.
