electric fan - which years?
ahh ok. I thought newer models might have an electric main fan and auxiliary. While I'm doing this water pump swap I was toying with the idea of replacing the mechanical fan with a large electric. I read where some people use a fan out of a ford taurus (common swap for Jeeps) in their discos.
spike, electric fans are much better off-road than mechanical..they pull more air and use less horsepower to operate. They are a must have on the trail during the summers here in the southeast.
I have heard the opposite.
Because they only run at one speed they always pull "X" amount of air no matter what.
Where as a clutch fan pulls more air the faster the engine turns.
I am only going buy my experience from people I have talked to so I admit that my info may not be 100% correct.

that let's me shut them both off, if necessary.
I was using the popular 16" 2speed lincoln (5600 cfm), before that, but it drew 39 amps on high speed.
Mine hasn't overheated since I removed the mechanical, including 5mph rush hour chicago, 90deg.
The twins draw 8amps ea, from summit, about $75, on sale.
(no shroud, close to rad)
I think the waterpump thanks me, too.(it lost about 5lbs. rotating)
luck,greg
