Default The elusive SRD 5000700

Got a notification that a junkyard about 1.5 hours away got a 2004 in the yard. Drove out there and extracted the SLABS expecting to find the grail I've been on the hunt for... only to find SRD 000150 :/

So they didn't come in all 2004s... These things really are a unicorn aren't they.

I got my SLABS computer from an early 2004 and it isn’t the most sought after one. It works great though.

I’m curious if anyone knows what the actual differences are between 000150 and 5000700 if 000150 came on 2004s too.

Mine is SRD000150. I can confirm that they were installed on early 2004’s. I’m sure the latest and greatest one has some improvements over it, but I’ve never heard of a definitive difference. I’ve had mine for 3 1/2 years with no issues.

The 5000700 seems to be more sensitive to wheelspin, and to sensor issues. It's also aware of the CDL.
I swapped one in and out of my '99 and the original SLABS would be perfectly happy but the 5000700 would complain about one of the wheels.
I don't know what version is in my '04. If it's not the unicorn then I'm going to swap that into it.

The SRD000150 also recognizes the CDL.

Peace be with you.

Ah, Grasshopper …

That which you seek is truly rare and elusive, and likely not worth your time and effort.

I too have sought that Holy Grail.

I too have toiled to remove the SLABS from an ’04 DII, only to find it to be an SRD000150. Twice.

And I too have sought The Truth about the differences between the SRD000150 and the SRD500070.

I too have failed on both counts.

There is speculation and some anecdotes about the features of the SRD500070, but I have found nothing authoritative or persuasive.

So, again, peace be with you. The SRD000150 is more than capable to work with the locking CDL.

Thank you sensei.

Here is an link that I saved for reference a few years ago from a different forum:
http://www.discotd5.com/ecu-upgrades...e-facelift-d2s

This is my understanding....

1) SRD000070 was fitted to pre-2002 vehicles
2) SRD000150 which was fitted to 2003 and 2004 vehicles
3) SRD500070 was offered to support a recall or service campaign A/B/D 263

The SRD500070 unicorn does exist from the pic below. Note it came with a 12/06 manufacture date which could explain its use to support the recall campaign even after Disco 2 production ceased. And also perhaps explain why wreckyard aspirations on 2004 Discos for the illusive SRD500070 have not been successful.

-------------------------------------------------------

** Recall A/B/D 263 was issued in 2002 - indicates that metallic debris within the hub can attach to the wheel speed sensor causing the sensor to misread speed, which results in the SLABS unit incorrectly reducing braking pressure.

Problem: SLABS ECU interprets signals from wheel sensors incorrectly, causing brake pressure to be reduced when it should be maintained.
VINs covered: XA900000 to XA907214, XA200000 to 1A299999, 1A700000 to 2A736347 (Build Dates: 10/6/1998 to 2/6/2001)
Date of Issue: 18 March 2002**

Source: https://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery...n-numbers.html

------------------------------------------------

How I interpret this...

- SRD000150 (fitted to 2003 and 2004 vehicles) already has the one of the latest iteration of ABS and CDL programming, eg, ABS is still activated even after the truck is re-started while in CDL mode.
- There is a possibility 1998 to 2001 units may have retrofitted with SRD500070
- SRD500070 may have even finer ABS programming under CDL mode versus SRD000150 (based on what I have read in other forums)
