Default ..:: The Emergency Light Signaling Situation ::..

Hello Roverers,

The "FRONT RIGHT DIRECTIONAL LAMP" on my 2002 Disco S2 is cracked and water comes inside of it, creating a water tank and burning the bulb regularly; replacing it is on my list of non-priorities, but a bit of probs have derived from it.

We all know when a bulb is out or anything else wrong with a directional light, the blinker warning sound becomes a fast-repeating one, I was accustomed to this sound knowing that the front right was burnt.

Recently the "break light switch" died on me, so while I wait for the replacement to arrive (Tuesday 22nd), I've been using the emergency lights signals to help drivers behind me know that I'm coming to a stop; but a couple of days back, when hitting the emergency light switch, an even faster sound (like a repeating machine gun) comes on, and shuts after a few seconds, along with this new behavior, the blinking lights indicator on dash and all working lights on right side do not come on... the new sound comes on every now and then and shuts off... left side lights do come one, even though it does not show on the dash.

Today I opened the under dash fuse box and checked; both big brown square ones are fine, I swapped them, and left side works all the time; but right side makes the same noise... what fuse should I be looking into, or what hints can any of you give me? it will be greatly appreciated, thanks! ;-]#

Hi Adolfo.
This is not a fuse thing.
A flooded cornering lamp should also not burn a light bulb. It will corrode its socket contacts and place a load to the circuit, the on board comfuser senses such but not burn the bulb.
The emergency lights are sharing the use of the cornering lamp and also senses the bad circuit and behaves equally bad.
Remove the light bulb socket from behind the lens and clean it thoroughly, better immersing a hot baking soda solution a few minutes. You will see it bubbling and brush/scrape to remove all corrosion.
When cleaned and dry, leave the bulb socket hanging outside of the flooded lens, put the bulb and try. Problem should go away.

Thanks for your input Externet! I will follow your recommendation to clean, just in case, both upper and lower bulb sockets that go behind the lens; nevertheless, the issue still persits without the both sockets in place; I mean, I know that without them connected it will make the regular fast-repeating sound to alert you that something is off, but the sound is like when you keep pressed a key on an old electric typewriter, then goes off after a few secs, and then back on for the same time after a minute or so... I'll report back if the cleaning method makes a difference. Thanks.
