Default Engine (ATF) Flush and Seafoam

Starting to catch up on the 60k maintenance on my recently acquired '03 SE. Can someone give me the quick tips on using ATF as an engine flush? Do you simply drain your old oil, add 6 qts of ATF, let the truck run for 15 minutes or so, drain the ATF and remove the old filter, replace filter and fill with synthetic oil?

As far as Seafoam goes, one can in the tank and one for induction? Where do you tap into the induction system?

Thanks for all your help.

PS - The only Mobil-1 oil I can find in 5w-40 (which I think is appropriate for my location in Kansas City) is labeled for use in diesel vehicles. Is there a difference? Should I be using something else?

You have it right except let it idle for 20 t0 30 minutes, don't drive it and then drain it.
As for the induction, if you don't know how to do it, send me your tele number.

i would fill it up with the cheapest oil after you do the atf run, then run it for a few more minutes, drain and fill it up with your oil of choice!

I did, never again, some people may be fine, if you have a ton of sludge, (I did), it can cause even more problems.

Years ago, it was common to put (1)quart atf w/oil & let it idle.

A much safer approach in my opinion.

Even better, a detergent additive that you change with your oil.

Let us know how it goes, please

luck,greg

I wouldnt do it either.

If you have a severe sludge problem then I would have it done by a pro, they have insurance to cover their butts if your engine blows up.

If you dont have a sludge problem then just switch to a good high detergent motor oil.
Like a full synthetic or a diesel oil.

Dont do it! or better yet, why are you doing this?

Leave well enough alone..don't anger the rover gods with this ATF nonesense.

If you feel it's needs to be cleaner in there then change the oil/filter 2-3 times in a 30 day period. Then go synthetic but don't do the ATF flush..

ATF is just thin oil it has no more detergents in it than regular motor oil (actually less). You can put in in your engine but it won't clean a thing. It does look impressive because it will rinse the old dark oil out that is lining the metal in your engine, whether that is a good thing though is arguable. Why is it you think you need a flush? Just use a good HDEO like Rotella, Delvac, Delo etc.
