Default Engine codes after induction cleaning.

I ran two cans of Seafoam through my intake as per one of Mike's many How-Tos. I followed up with some carb cleaner and scrubbing in the throttle body.

First off...there's no written description anywhere that can tell you how much smoke to expect!!! I took it off on a shakedown run and was leaving enough smoke to cover both lanes. It was so bad that at least one car in the *oncoming* lane had to stop until it cleared!

Anyway, it took a while to crank up and idled very rough until I was able to put the spurs to it. Subsequently, I had 11 codes.

(In the order they were read)
P1884
P1300
P0308
P0307
P0102
P0300
P0301
P0139
P0159

Some were duplicates.

They are all MAF, misfire, or O2 sensor related.

They've cleared and haven't any come back in the 2-3 short drives I've taken since.

I assume that this is all related to the induction cleaning and there's nothing to worry about?

Happy Thanksgiving!

the induction cleaning. You just went over kill, bet it is running a lot better. Go buy one more can to throw to throw in the tank. 2 cans as a induction would surely throw a few codes, bet your engine is running better.

The smoking is the best part. I live at the end of a secluded quiet development and people freak whenever I do an induction cleaning. It's pretty funny the whole place is engulfed in smoke. The codes btw are normal.

Now you tell me!

I bought two cans thinking they were both for the induction. I must have skipped the part where you said add the second to the tank...

Yes...it does run better. It purrs at speed. Idle is the same, though.

But then, I didn't really have any problems with it. Just something that I thought I'd do since I'm closing in on 60k.

Some additional notes:

1. Don't do in the garage, even with the doo open, unless you want your house to be hazy and smell like exhaust.

2. Warn your neighbors unless you want to risk them calling the fire deparment.

Personally I would put 2 bottles of techron in the tank instead of Seafoam. A little can of seafoam (which is essentially rubbing alcohol, pale oil and naptha) is not going to do much in a 24 gallon tank of gas. The techron (and even better the amsoil FI cleaner) has polyether amine (PEA) which does clean very well at low concentrations. Most gas around here is 10% ethanol which keeps fuel injectors very clean.

The seafoam is a great induction/top end cleaner and oil flush though.

Dave, remind me what is wrong with your idle?

I agree, 2 large bottles of Techtron do wonders, 44K works either better, but most people just don't want to pay the BIG $$$$'s for the better additives.

Mike,

Nothing was really wrong with the idle before, so not much has changed. I was just noting that there's an improvement at speed. Much smoother.

Probably didn't need to mention the idle at all.

Sorry for the confusion.

Happy T-day.

2 bottles of techron (at Walmart) cost as much as 1 bottle of Seafoam. For whatever reason Seafoam got really expensive for what it is.
