If you were really looking to get every last bit out, yes maybe it is the best idea, but most people get great results using the old filter and then replacing it with a new on after the flush is done, at least that is the way I have done it.

 

ok, now I'm all confused. should I use aft? I will do some calling of some of my friends and see if they have ever done an engine flush, I get the truck today and want to take care of it right.

Nathan, asking your friends won't give you any accurate information.
Dealers and shops have been doing engine flushed for over 20 years.
Bottom line, do it if you want to help clean out the engine or not, it is your call.

Since you want to take a stand against engine flushing, give us your technical experience that you are basing this on and be very specific. I am sure auto manufactures, dealer ships and most of the better small shop would like to know what is wrong with this.

 

Nobody is against engine flushing, just against filling your crankcase with ATF and then running the engine.

If you read the owners manual it will tell you to specifically NOT to use anything but motor oil in your engine.

 

Follow the directions on the bottle, use a cheap oil filter for during the flush and then a good one after it.

What is the difference between doing that and a full chemical flush using any of the engine flush machines.
Also, show me one post over the last 3 or 4 years that stated a problem either at the time or later.

 

I am a mechanic and have been working on cars for over 20 years. I use BG oil flush. And having done research on this am putting a can in for 2 full fuel tanks prior to actually changing my oil. This gives it plenty of time to fully break down all of the sludge particulates.

We did this with a 15 year old Jetta when I worked at the VW dealer and tore down the engine. It was immaculate inside. The can itself recommends running the vehicle for 20 minutes at 2k RPM's however if you have a really neglected engine do what I say.

I have actually experienced 40 more mpt during this process and am only a week away from doing my oil change.

 

Mike I would not recommend using a flushing machine either, using a can of Gunk brand engine flush ok, but thats it.

Can we say for 100% that these guys problems were due to the ATF flush? No, but I still would not do it or recommend it.
