Question Engine Identification?? I'm not sure which I have

Hi again... I have the '04 Disco II S model with a 4.6l engine.. That engine blew so I had an engine rebuilt and I believe the guy who rebuilt it put in the better/more reliable Range Rover P-38 2003 engine.. I have lost contact info for the guy so I am just guessing I still have the Disco 4.6l engine..
Problem... I replaced my Power Steering pump and Fan belt, but the Fan belt is loose and screaming like a mad man!! I put some shims under the A/C compressor to shut up the belt.
Question... If this is the P-38 engine, would that be why the belt that I bought for the Disco 4.6L? or is my belt tensioner gone bad??

Also where do I find #s on the engine and how do I Identify the exact engine.. Thanks!

Any of the 03/04 engines are the same, no better or worse then the other with the exception of some bad 03 engines that were failing do to an oil pump engine.
There are 2 different size belts fro all Bosh engine, you may have purchased one that was designed for a D2 with ACE, or you nay have a failing tensioner.
But to make it clear, P38's did not have a better 4.6 then the 03/04.

Default Thanks as always discomike..

I did notice on the AutoZone computer that there was a different part number for a RR 4.6L P38 engine from my LR Disco2 4.6L engine.. I do have Secondary Air Injection, but i'm not sure what the ACE is...

Is shimming my A/C compressor a bad idea, or will it do until I replace the Tensioner???
Thanks again as alway Mike...

does your power steering reservior have one or two caps if it has two caps you have ACE.
if you have to shim anything some thing is wrong, like using and ACE belt on a non-ACE truck or a bad tensioner

Quit driving it and replace the tensioner if in fact it is bad.
Some 4.6's have SAI others didn't, depending on the year it was built and the country or state it was being sold in, the engine is other wise exactly the same.

then make sure you have the correct belt, an ACE belt is slightly longer. if you do have the correct belt them i would say you have a bad tensioner.

They show different parts, because the 4.6L in the P38 (and all P38) ended in 2002. The front covers up to 2002 have a provision for the oil cooler lines. The Discoveries didn't have a 4.6L until 2003, and by 2003 they removed the oil cooler. So the front covers are "different"

Also the build quality of the P-38 engines is way better than the '03/04 Disco engines, thats why there are so many threads about engine swaps and a ton of people knowing about the P-38 engine.
What you need to do is when ordering engine parts order parts for your ENGINE not your TRUCK.
