If my engine light is coming on will Auto Zone check to see what the codes are for free? I thought I read this on here somewhere. Do you usually need an appointment there or will they take walk ins?

Just walk in, say you need some codes read and they will come out and do it for you. Write down the codes and come back on here and we'll let you know how to address them.

 

I called my AutoZone and they said they no longer doing that and check with Aamco, but I dont know if thats all the AutoZone and the one I called was in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.

 

Every auto palce around me does it, but its all depending on the specific store, most places will still do it. Just give them a ring before you go.

 

I have heard that some places on the coasts stopped doing it for liabilities.

They will rent you one, but you basicall give them $150, they give you the scanner, you check your codes, they give you your money back.

Make sure and write down your codes and post them back on here.

 

Just stop by and check with any of your local auto part store, some still offer the service.

 

I bought a scanner off of e-bay for $75 with shipping that will read live data as well as trouble codes and clear them too.
It reads rpm, road speed, MAF readings, O2 readings, almost everything.

 

I bought one for $30 bucks at Harbor Freight yesterday! Its a cheesy brand but it does everything I need it to do. If you have a rover, its worth buying one IMO.

Well, Auto zone checked the code. It read PO451. They said it was probably the gas cap seal is broken but also went on the say that alot of people are coming in from the recent ethenol issue in the gas which is causing caution lights to come on etc. Does anyone know anything about this?

I figure I can try a new gas cap first. To see if that fixes the problem. Does this diagnosis sound accurate with this code?

No, it is not the cap, it is the pressure sensor out of range.
