Default engine performance

i have a 1998 disco. i was just wondering if there are any minor performance upgrades that would give me a little extra power? also as far as engine swaps go, what would be the best swap out? i still have the stock engine in it now, and am just curious if it would be worth it to swap it for a 350 or maybe a diesel engine. thanks for your help in advance.

A 350 or diesel swap will require virtually rebuilding the entire truck around the engine. The stock drivetrain will not hold up to the torque and the suspension won't handle the weight. Your 4.0 is an all aluminum engine and you're asking about swapping in a cast iron engine. If you feel it necessary to throw the money into an engine swap get a Rover 4.6 and call it good. There really aren't many performance upgrades for these engines. Performance is not what they are built for. What are you using the truck for that yo need more power?

If I remember right you posted this question on another site, if I remember right you didn't answer my question of what has been done to it so far to improve the mileage, when was it last tuned, were wires used, what octane gas are you using.
For get about dropping in a 350, the truck is not worth the expense involved in doing that sort of a swap.

There are lots of performance mods that you can do but they all require rebuilding the engine.
You can bore it, stroke it and mill the heads, add a turbo or super charger, but as for simple little things that you can do on a Sat morning...no, nothing that you can do.

why do people insist on attempting to make rigs that were never designed to go fast, fast.

if you want fast and powerfull buy a muscle car. if you want handling also buy a sports car.

if you want insanely fast buy a sports bike.

if a car or otherwise does not look fast when standing still it was not meant to go fast while in motion.

The only thing fast about my Rover is the movement of the fuel gauge from full to empty.

I literally see my fuel gauge go down when I floor it. But I never floor it.

the main reason i want a little more power is because whenever i take it off road and im ascending a decently steep hill it seems to be a little slow. so i was hoping to get a little more power to make it up the hills a little easier. i use it as my daily driver but i do take it off road on ocassion. i havent had it tuned since i bought it in march, but i believe the previous owner had it done just before i bought it. i use 91 octane gas. as for a diesel swap, i was thinking an old rover diesel, or maybe from a diesel rover from england.
