Engine Problems
Hey everyone. I am new to this forum, and appreciate all of the great advice. I have been reading for about an hour and a half now, and can't find a similiar problem. The Rover is a 2000 Dicovery series II, it is a friends car. I went over to look at the car and here are the obvious problems....Rover started fine after a battery charge, runs a little rough, press on the accelerator and there is a noticable bog in the intake, engine comes up in rpm with no power, after engine is warm there is a noticable backfire in the intake with a rapid deceleration(not all times),engine studders about 4000 rpm and slowly climbs past that. I took it for a test drive and it accelerates very slowly and has the bogging noise. I pulled a ton of codes out of the engine, but I am not sure how long they were in there. It sounds like that there is a clogged injector with a possible intake leak. I think it is running lean due to an injector problem. I had a toyota 4 runner and it has almost all of these symptoms, Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here are the codes P1888,P1884,P1590,P0103,123,P0300,303,308,P1668. Thank You
When was the last time it had the plugs and wires changed? Mis-fires are common when the plugs and wires go bad.

I am assuming the CEl comes back after clearing? what codes are left? YOu are looking at plugs and wires and possibly a new MAF. Check out www.lrrforums.coma dn click the store link. 8MM Magnacor and bosch+4 are the best combo for the Discovery.
The wires and plugs were replaced a short while ago, when I looked at the installation it was very messy. I don't have a book yet so I am not sure if they are wired properly, but the problem existed before and after these changes. As for the cei, it does not come on, but the same conditions still exist. After clearing, the code that comes up after revving the engine and driving it around in the parking lot is P1590 my daughter just said. Thanks Guys!
P1590 is a rough road code. Have to wait for DiscoMike on this one.
What plugs and wires were used? It could have been done incorrectly. I am guessing this is your daughter's truck and you aren't near?

Cheap plugs and wires I am sure, The truck is my friends parents car that they are going to give to here, My daughter is 12 and she is my right hand man when it comes to fixing things. She still has the memory! I have the skill. I am a mechanic by trade, just not on cars. I have owned to many pieces of crap, thats how I learned cars. Broke with kids makes you learn things! Thanks Mitch
Thanks for the wiring and firing order. I will check this in the morning, but I think it could also be the mass airflow sensor. I still have to check the airfilter. It is always the stupid stuff. Thanks Mitch
