The 4.6 pistons have more dish to achieve the same compression as the 4.0 pistons, so if you use the 4.0 pistons you will get more compression. It will be ok, but you might need to run a high octane fuel to prevent detonation. I would think any good quality rings should be fine, if hastings are known to be a minimum gap try a better brand.

Dissolves just fine. RAVE even calls out this procedure for pre-serpentine belt v8.

Im still trying to figure out if there is a size difference in pistons between the 4.0 and 4.6. Any guidance would be great!

i also ended up ordering a new Elbow for the coolant just because of the rust. I figure getting rust particles in the coolant isn’t the best thing for the engine
Stephen, any progress to report?

Unfortunately, I'm at a pause on this project due to work sending me overseas for 5 months last minute. I'll be tackling this once again in the fall. I'll be sure to update here once I'm back!

I did and it was successful. I managed to get her up and running. Currently at 100 miles on the engine. After pulling the engine out twice (I may have forgotten to tighten down something behind the flex plate after putting it back in once) I have a minimal oil leak out the back which may be the crappy aftermarket Crucifix seals. The fan clutch might also be bad, but I’ll do a full write up with what pictures/videos I have and any lessons learned this coming weekend!

Thanks - greatly appreciated!

I'm starting to order parts for my 4.0/4.6 build Bearmarch crucifix seals was one of the first items ordered.

Looking forward to the write up.

yep don’t make that mistake. I didn’t have time this week to work on my Rover so I ended up dropping it off at a specialist to do a post re-build inspection of her to ensure I didn’t royally mess anything up

Hey Stephen,

Still running strong?

Waiting on my current motor to stop running so I can start the new build, but she just keeps chugging along...
