Default engine shuts itself off

My 2002 DII shut itself off while driving recently. I started it up right away and drove the remaining block to my destination when it shut itself off again. This time it wouldn't start again. Thinking the alternator was shot, I replaced it and charged the, now very dead, battery. The truck started right up... and then shut off again after 10-15min of running in the driveway. So, now I'm scratching my head again. Any ideas about what this might be?

What was the load on the battery during that 10-15 minutes?

Otherwise, my BMW does that and was r/t crank position sensor...but no concurrent electrical issues...

Are you positive the alternator was related issue or could it have been a coincidence?

I'm betting crank position sensor...check fuses as well

@ shannon I just let it idle while I watch it. I notice a slight surge or rev just before shut off.
Also, I am not sure that the Alternator was the issue (I aa less sure now)

Bad crank position sensor.
If it were the alternator you would have gotten the battery warning light on on the dash as well as your transmission would have gone into limp mode.
