Engine shuts off while driving - also have 3 amigos
I have had the three amigos on my 99 DII now for over 1 month - haven't had the codes read or checked into it at all after reading posts seeing how much $$ it may cost me. I know that might not be smart and after tonight I am willing to bring it in to see what's going on - my engine shut off while I was backing into a parking space going about 5 mph. The wheel locked up and the brakes didn't seem to work too well. Check engine light came on. I think the Sport mode was also lit up but hadn't been pressed. I turned off the car and tried to restartnothing. I then let it coast about 50 feet and put it into park. Let it sit for a minute then restarted and it was fine. I backed into the spot and turned it off, no problem. I am now very scared to drive it and it happen again (in more traffic!). Please give me any suggestions you may have.
Should I bring it to AutoZone and get the codes read? That is free, right? I don't do my own work on my DII and have had for about one year now, just replaced front brakes and all 4 tires so thinking about dropping another thousand doesn't make me feel too gooddon't have much money but will pay bc need to drive a car that runs consistently! Thanks for any help here.

The no start(includes the sport mode light on) is more than likely a faulty crank sensor which is pretty common problem with these vehicles. As far as the HDC, TC, and ABS lights go, Autozone will probably not be able to read those faults(not sure), so you will probably need to go to the dealer for that.
I'm with klh113, crank sensor...
But, you need to have the codes check for the 3 amigos... Can you tel us what was happening when they came on? Sometimes it can be a simple DIY fix...

Thanks for your help. So, the engine cutting off is most likely a faulty crank sensor? Any idea where best to get that fixed (please don't say the dealer, they charge so much!) and is it something I need to fix asap? Any ideas on how much it will cost?
I assume I need to go right away since this could happen again at any time.
Concerning 3 amigos, they came on after I had new front brakes put on, maybe 1 week or so after. I also had new tires put on around the same time. Other than that, I wasn't doing anything different, just normal driving (I don't offroad)- they came on and off for about a week or so then came on and haven't shut off since. . . Any ideas?

Ok, you need to replace the crank sensor ASAP if you dont want the truck to stall on you again.
Any mechanic can do it.
As for your 3 amigos, it is most likely brake dust. Go to the DIY carwash and clean your wheels really well. Spray around inside the wheel well and between every spoke on each rim. See if that doesnt help.
Cheap brake pads will create lots of brake dust and can set off the 3 amigos.
And dont be afraid to spend money on your truck, letting things go because you think it will be expensive will cost you more in the long run, most things are cheap fixes if caught early.
Its kinda like cancer, ignore it and you will die, take care of it right away and you may live another day.

Also, I would check the speed sensor wiring, I have seen these wires come out of the bracket and get chewed up by the cv boot.
Usually after work was done.

M and S lights coming on, along with dying whiledriving, indicates a fault with the crank sensor which affects fuel pump operation, it does not mean there is a fault with the fuel pump. If you have fuel key on-not cranking and no fuel key on-cranking this indicates there is no crank position signal being sent to the pcm, the pcm sees that you are not trying to start the vehicle and as such will not energize the fuel pump relay to send fuel to the engine.
