Engine Swap:Thinking about Buick 3800 or 4.3 Chevy
#11
The only legit swap I've seen has been on these forums. It was a Green 2000 DII I believe with a isuzu motor.
I think some guys in Australia have actually pulled off a chevy swap but I've only seen it as hear say online.

Borrowed this from a thread over on ExPo....
"There's a thread on Pirate4x4.com, I think, about a guy that put an Isuzu diesel into a DII. It was a gorgeous, spared-no-expense conversion, but if I remember correctly the amount of time/money he put into it was mind-blowing."
This was the current owner's repsonse later in the thread...
"I now own this vehicle. Got a pretty good deal on it too. It is indeed mindblowing and a super clean install. No warning lights, no weird wiring, no chop jobs, every detail accounted for.....however it is illegal in all 50 states. Being that i live in Wyoming I was able to slip under the radar and register it without any difficulty.
Its a beast off-road and fairly civil on."

There is a place in the South that takes all kinds of Rovers and puts diesels into them. If you want to go Chevy though it sure can be done. I would pay a visit to the Miata boards. There are many of them that do a clean and easy swap of an LT1 engine into their cars (and keep electronics, etc OK). If they could cram one into a Miata, why not a Rover!

Nothing's impossible, just depends on your skill level and desire. He's not quite done with the swap into a P38 but he's close.
Range Rover P38 diesel conversion
Also I believe Ashcroft makes a standalone brain for the ZF24

I guess i'm looking for something with hp and torque closer to the 4.6. I'm really looking at the Buick 3800 engine. Those are on ebay all day long for $600-800 with less than 100k miles. And there are a bunch of them at local junk yards.
Spike, your right my D1 engine gives me no trouble at all (well, not much) but this 4.6 has been a little trickier. Already rebuilt it last year and has the same problems 12 months later. It just looks like it's one of those motors that has all those typical 4.6 problems.
I've got connections with engine builders, rodders, speed shop guys that are very knowledgeable and imaginative. Just asking questions and seeing what my options are.
Thanks for all the posts.
