Default Engine / trans compatability question

Does anyone know if a 4.6 engine / trans / transfer case out of a 99 P38 Range Rover is the same as what is in an 03 Discovery? Reason being I can buy the whole set up for $250.00, (conditiion unknown) and I was thinking if it all fits, might be good to have and build up as a spare.

The engine is the same. I just bought a 99 P38 and put it in my 04. It is likely therefore the tranny/X-fer case are the same as well, but cannot confirm that first hand.

I thought the p38 uses some sort of viscous TC? I think the lucky8 build thread addresses it.

Transfer case is certainly different. It's a Borg Warner and the drive shafts are on the left instead of right. Also if you're looking to just drop right in, you'd need to make sure the p38 engine is Bosch not Gems. Timing cover is different too. 99 p38 probably doesn't have SAI, 03 disco more than likely does. That means the heads are different and will need swapped.

Stay away from that t/case. Have you considered modifiying your current t/case to a CDL, add the linkage and your done, By doing this you will have a well know t/case instead of an older one that would also need to be rewired for your solenoid.
