Default engine whine on startup and accelleration

Hey everybody;

I heard and odd whine when i start up my 99disco 2 its loud and then goes awy after the engine idles down to 600rpm but as soon as i giver some gas i hear a less loud whine that incrases as i speed up.But it never gets ver very loud (loiudest at startup) !rst of the day no other sounds just whine ..I took it into my mechanic (who owns his own rover and he said it was the idler pully so i replaced it and the serpintine belt while he was at it ..but the noice is still there ..He chalks it up to typical landrover alltinator noise .but i am skeptical ,,Any insights??

When mine did that it sounded like a super charger, a small one.
It was the water pump.
I to changed the idler pully first,
After I got my water pump off I saw the weep hole on the pump
had started to leak.

You may have a bad belt tensioner also which should be replaced when you replace the idler pulley.
You may also have some noise from your power steering pump, try turning your wheel when you hear the noise, does it change?
