Default Enhanced 4x4 System?

Sorry to make this my first post, but I am looking to buy a local 99 Land Rover Discovery. The current owner told me today that the Enhanced 4x4 computer has not worked for about three years. Sounds like an expensive fix, but I was curious if anyone has ever had this computer replaced or repaired and knew what all and how much money are involved.

Find out specifically what he is talking about, is there a check engine light on, if so go to a local auto parts store and have the codes read for free and get back to me with the fault code numbers.
By the way, there is no such thing as an enhanced 4X4 computer.

I'm guessing it's the SLABS system (brakes) that is not working.

Thanks guys, I just got off the phone with Cape Fear LR and they asked me the same questions. Unfortunately I'm about 75 miles from the Rover. Trying to see if it is worth going out there. I sent the owner another email asking about which light was one etc..This was his previous response to the question I asked him about "what is the enhanced 4x4 system?"
"The computer
monitors each wheel and determines if it is slipping / spinning and
transfers the torque from that wheel to wheels that are not spinning.

When the computer is working, you can have wheels off the ground (in really
rough terrain) and the power will be transfered to the wheels that are on
the ground."

Any idea what it would run to fix this? Just a ballpark worst case scenerio.

How much is he asking for the truck, are the ABS warning lights on, if so what codes are showing that leads him to believe it needs a new computer.

If its been 'broken' for years, chances are that this poor Rover hasn't had the critical love and maintenance for it to be even worth concidering. Could be wrong, but if the owner can't have the important things fixed, what else has to be addressed that he just doesn't bother with. Usually not too judgemental, but this is fishy.

I'd pass on this one, and try to find one who is up to date maintenance wise.

His asking price is $4,600, its got 137,000 miles. Here's the lights that are on...more than what I thought
"TC - Traction Control
ABS - Anti-Lock Brake System
Symbol of the vehicle going down a grade - Down Hill Decent Feature"

Yes, that is "The Three Amigos". Best case, could cost a couple hundred bucks to fix. Worst case, and probably more likely given what you've said, could cost $2-4000 to fix.

I know personally, if my SLABS system takes a crap, I'll just yank the whole thing, run with no ABS and just get locking diffs.
