Default erratic surging

I have a 97 Disco 1 with 106000 miles in great condition purchased used as a program car with 11,000 miles. At about 13,000 miles a intermittent surging problem developed. At hwy speed with constant throttle the engine power would drop (about 800 rpm) for about 2 - 3 sec and and then regain to normal for about 2 -3 sec and then drop again and regain again over and over. This situation would last for maybe 20 min. and then clear up. Over the years I would encounted this situation every 5,000 miles or so. Then more recently the problem has been recuring more frequently. No error messages have ever recorded. The dealer has no ideas. Any thoughts??? Thanks...

Sea Foam - for the tank and for the intake.

Or Techron for the tank may work too.

Sound like your truck is unhappy because it's dirty - on the inside - kind of like my last girlfriend.

Do you have any check engine lights on?

My Disco does in fact at this time have the "check engine" light on. But during all past occurrences of the problem the light was off.

I spoke to a tech at the Houston dealer who suggested that I replace the speed sensor as a first thing to try.
