Default Exhaust leak

So my disco has a bank 2 exhaust leak. While my mechanic was doing job, he noticed the leak was actually coming from the sleeve in the head so the engine has to come apart. My questions are 1: is this normal 2 : any cost averages and 3: anything else I should have done since the engine has to be disassembled. Any input would be helpful. Thanks guys and gals.

So you have a blown head gasket, no big deal, happens to all DII's.
Here are the parts you need.
Land Rover Head Bolt Kit Fits Discovery, Range Rover & Defender Vehicles
and
Discovery II Head Gasket Kit - Land Rover Discovery Parts And Accessories At Atlantic British

Total cost including parts and labor, no more than $1500.
Takes 2 days start to finish.

There is no way a mechanic can make that determination, as Spike mentioned, you have a blown head gasket. How much is he quoting you fo the job and how many miles on the engine.

Let me clarify some info-the shop did and exhaust manifold gasket replacement. They also found a crack in Y pipe and welded. After replacement of gaskets they still had exhaust leak leading to diagnosis of head gasket. It is a reputable shop so I trust their work. The only reason they did not have a total estimate was because it was at the end of business day friday. I am getting the work done regardless since I already knew there was leakage from head and valve cover. So, no more than $1500 you say? I can live with that as long as there is no more leaking.
