Default Exhaust Manifold Final Torque

In the Rave Manual Torque Settings section the Torque for the Exhaust Manifolds is listed as 40 ftlbs. In the Cylinder head Directions it is listed as 28 ftlbs.

This is a pretty big disparity. I have been using 28 ftlbs, and it appeared that there was a bit of a leak in a couple of places. What do you guys think about going to 40 ftlbs.?

I didn't use a torque wrench on the exhaust manifold bolts.

I *did* tighten them in a pattern similar to the head bolts and made 2 passes.

You've got a lot of tolerance in those exhaust gaskets to forgive a lot of errors, for one thing, and if you have a leak there's always copper exhaust gasket sealant to slather on the outside.

Plus you can loosen and re-tighten those exhaust bolts multiple times, as desired.

Collie, if you can reach the manifolds easily after total assembly then do 30lb/ft and later when the engine has cooled down do an extra torque to 40lb/ft. Although it seems a very hefty torque on 10mm studs considering it has a laminated gasket.

No I meant no torque wrench, just a 3/8 ratchet and they felt tight to me lol
