Question Exhaust out of alignment

Hey all, I replaced my motor mount last week as i had vibrations and my drivers side cat was touching the frame and you could hear it rattle against the frame. Well its still touching and need to get a way to get it off the frame. i went to a custom muffler and the guy fixed my leak at the Y that joins the sielencer. He told me that i should try loosen the bottom motor mount nuts and pry over the motor at the motor mount screws go threw the chassie mount and have a oval opening allowing adjustment. Well i found it hard to pry from the top of the motor so i ran a block of 1/2" piece of wood between the cat and the frame and could see the motor shift a bit. How much i couldnt tell. I then tightened up the motor mount nuts and then took out the wood it just snapped back against the frame. The only thing i can think of is having the muffler guy cut up the pipe and re do it. Any ideas as it seem this tollerence is another idiodic Land rover design feature. There seems to be alot of jobs for people who cant think.....

Thanks Chris

When did this start, after the mount was replaced? Or did you replace the mount to try and correct this? I'm a bit unclear here. If you're trying to move the engine over, well that's going to be tough. You'll need to loosen everything, the mounts and the t-case mounts, use a crane for safety and line it all back up. I wonder on the success if this however, there is not much room to play here.

But really, it just takes a min to cut that cat out and weld it back in with some slip collars. should line up fine after that. Mine was hitting the frame a bit on that side, but the drive shaft pounding into it caused it.

Isn't this the vehicle that you posted about earlier that they gave you a free two or three hour evaluation on the lift at a dealership?

You told us it had signifacant body panels replaced but still had some major isssues, like a fractured motor mount on one side and a damaged one on the other side, and the exhaust was banging on the frame?

Sounds like you bought somebody else's disaster, did the airbags ever deploy?

Sounds like you made a bad buy in the beginning. Did they have a note from the previous owner?

It was a couple of hours and only repainted was waht they told me. No bondo so yes, maybe replaced. No note as i bought it from a small dealer and they got it from auction as it bwas a bank repo. I havent decided if i am going to keep it but to sell it i need to make it right. ie, cat banging and queit down the engine. I am getting ready to open top and bottom of engine. Will post findings.

thanks Chris

Based on that information I would start taking some frame measurements.
