I've read the fishing line trick is the way to go. You're still going to need a good amount of goof off, or some glue remover, and a lot of elbow grease to get them cleaned up.

not trying to sound like a badass, but I literally just grabbed a corner and yanked them all off in about 3 minutes...
now the fun part is getting all the residue off, as these damn extended flares do not cover the same foot print, so not all the glue/tape is hidden beneath.

Without damaging them or the paint?

This gets all the adhesive off in 10 minutes. Wheel will turn black then just spin it and hold a blade to it to clean it off. Forget a hairdryer, chemicals etc.

This wheel will not burn your paint. They have them on the shelf at most automotive stores. NAPA is your best bet if you have one in your area.

nope...and mine were beat, degraded, and sun-baked.
also, ended up not having to take ANY gunk off. they do match the same footprint if you take your time to fit, lined-up, and bend out the lines...

---

and they are on! I LOVE them.
take your time with a punch, pilot drill, and screws...again it's all about fitting and getting it to lay right.
don't bother using the black caps...they pinch, bend, break, and half of them pop right open. get black screws if you're worried about the look, but I personally like the contrast.

Me and a friend "ripped" off some fender flares off some late '80s jap car and you could see metal in some spots where the paint and primer came completely off.

Been gun shy of taking moldings off since.

For posterity, I took my stock flares off a few years ago. The fishing line trick didn't work for me. It left too much. I tried a heat gun, that made it worse. I tried multiple chemicals, but the adhesive was impervious.

I finally got the round eraser drill attachment and it was amazingly easy to get the adhesive off.
