Default Exterior lighting woes

I had a couple exterior light bulbs out so I went ahead and bought new bulbs and tried replacing everything. What a disaster. One of my rear fog light bulbs was blown, both license plate bulbs was blown and the front drivers side parking lights were also blown. Started out with the rear fog light, i replaced both rear fogs together with no problems and they still work just fine. But when I got to the license plate bulbs things got crazy. Started with the right most bulbs replacement and everything went fine. After install the new bulb lit right up. The left most bulb housing was broke so i used some dielectric grease and some gorilla glue to re-attach the copper and wireing back to the light housing. At first the right most bulb was working fine, then after using the glue on the left most bulbs both stopped working completely. Now out of the blue my rear drivers side tail light parking bulbs stopped working to! The parking lights still work. Both rear taillight assemblies and bulbs are brand new.

Now as for the front end, I replaced the bulbs but no luck. The new bulbs do not light up at all. I went over to the passenger side, removed one parking bulb and tried fitting it into the same light housing on the drivers side and it would not light, put it back on the passenger side and it works as it should.

Where do I even start? Is this the start of electrical problems or could it just be a blown fuse from within the interior fuse box? Please help cause Im past due for state inspection and im just trying to get everything in order.

Have you looked at your fuse panel? Check those first then worry about a short.

I have not checked the fuses yet, just thought it might be something more serious considering that different lights are failing at the same time all of the sudden. Ill take a look at the fuses tomorrow morning and update.

Always start with the easiest and work your way to the hardest. 9 times out of 10 you will solve the issue before the doom and gloom.

The clear plastic lens that houses the license plate bulbs and of which the bulbs shine directly through, on the cargo door. When you unscrew it and remove it from the door there are 2 connectors attached to the plastic lens, these connectors have a metal piece on them which holds the light bulb. One of my connectors broke off from the plastic lens so when you install a bulb the connectors cannot hold the bulb in place securely. I added grease and glue to that area to try and re-attach the connector to the plastic lens.

You guys were correct, it was just a fuse. I was thrilled to learn that LR included a fuse removal tool, made it much easier to check all the fuses. Cant remember which fuse exactly but once I replaced it all the lights front and rear worked again. Tail light, license plate and driving lights. All is well save a new muffler. Thanks much.

I still found that tool to be a PITA. You can't beat a good pair of needle nose pliers when checking the fuses under the dash in my opinion. Glad you got it all sorted out though!

the bulbs above the license plate go bad because the gasket fails and water corrodes the light parts.

I would buy some from a yard or in the classifieds... change them out.
