Default Extinct Inline Thermometer Mod Questions

Hi!

I'm working on my new-to-me 2002 Discovery. I recently got the ultragauage and am running between 200-217, so am going to install Extinct's inline mod. However, I'm a bit stumped on the options presented at purchase:

-Temp: 160, 170, 180, 190, or 195?
-Vent port orientation: Up or Down?

Thanks for all the help!

extinc will answer all your question. I just installed mine today. I got the Port up. I’m not going to use it anyway. As I understand if you go with the 170 you will get codes coolant to cool

I got the 180 and my temps are 178-190

Anything colder than 170 will throw a code, 180 works fine for most folks but you can run 170 if you want. Usually a Disco will only be able to maintain 100 degrees over ambient but more when towing or pulling a grade.

Port down fits a little closer to the radiator shroud and the port up version is not really necessary if you are not going to be running an external temperature sensor.

There is no reason to throw any code. 170F is the coolant temperature the thermostat changes state, NOT the temperature the engine will run.

Not true on an SAI equipped D2 you can trigger a P0126 for the engine temp not reaching optimal temp quick enough. SAI has a second temp sensor mounted onto the radiator by the lower hose connection.

geez, now you tell me. I’ve been throwing the P0126 code multiple times since installing this inline mod ( with 180 thermo) last year.
I just got around to finally replace. the temp sensor ( behind the alternator) in hopes I solve the code issue.
Perhaps another sensor replacement is in my future, as I have an SAI truck. 🙄

I've been saying it for years lol, SAI is more sensitive due to the second sensor. My 04 D2 with a standard LR OEM 180 Grey thermostat will toss a P0126 like no ones business. I'm used to it going off, but I can also quickly turn it off via my Scangauge II. My non SAI equipped D2's = I've never seen them ever trip a P0126 fault.
