Default Inline thermostat mod, mod

So, I had the inline thermo mod done about 4 years ago, and I'm happy with it. Even with a crudded up rad, it dropped the temp down to the mid 180's. (I have a new rad now) I would like to run hotter, say 195-200F. I have an ultra gauge to monitor temps.
Do you think a 190F or 195F chevy thermostat would do well to keep the temps under 210F even in hot summer desert climate?

thanks

Yes, the 190 works good. My dad's was getting a thermostat stuck open code with the 180.

because running at 183F is too cool. My D2 has almost 190,000 miles and I still haven't needed to replace the head gasket. Running it closer to 200F gives better fuel economy and less exhaust fouling downstream, so the cats and o2 sensors will be happier . I'm not going to destroy the engine if my ultra gauge is reading in the 190's temp wise. 183F is far too cool, and barely out of warm up mode. Weren't these engines designed to run at about 200F?

Thanks everyone for the info. Very helpful! Not really interested in maintaining a bypass option. Just waiting on a bleed screw and then I should have all the parts. Better to double, triple check the process because I'd hate to get the whole thing torn apart and cut up just to find out I'm missing something.

Pretty much. What has happened is that there isn't a ton of room for error at that temp so everyone is has focused on making the margin bigger because when it goes all wrong, these engines don't like it. So we're now in mindset of the lower, the better....which isn't really all that accurate, but whatever. I agree that in theory, running at temp should be cleaner and keep everything a little happier. It will def. give you better mileage...if you can say a rover gets mileage

You're not going to wreck anything @ or below 200. Whether it will get you there?? No idea. Try it and find out...you can always go back. Just save the old thermo until you know for sure.
