fan clutch question
maybe iv got nothing to worry about, but i didnt notice the temps climb to 204 before at idle with the new hoses, new coolant, new 180 PEL110500 stat. it seemed everything stayed below 200 after the new parts.
driving down the highway(186) or moving down any road at like 25mph and faster all the temps are below 190f. then at lights it will climb up to 203ish. so when i got home i let it idle for a while, temps climbed to 204 then slowly fell down to 195 and then stops around 197. is this my clutch fan not spinning fast enough at idle? as it seems to me that its a air flow issue at idle only.

I have the made in usa fan clutch from Auto Zone. I installed a couple months back. Mine does the same. Runs at about 188, at idle about 197, then will creep up to 203 or so. I rev the engine and it comes back down. I'm calling this "normal" for now.
The mechanical fan clutch is thermal controlled. Meaning it will only engage once a certain temp is reached. Going from highway driving to idle will take the fan clutch a little bit to reach it's temp and engage. That is considered normal operation.
Out of all my LR's here are the SETX temps I'm getting so far.
98 D1 Driving down the road 75-80MPH 193F, idle or at a stop light it'll go from 193-200F then the fan clutch engages it and will go back down to around 193-195F.
02 D2 Kalahari (unknown thermostat temp) 188-193F normally down the highway (last summer temps), now after the TF Bumper, TF Skid, Warn Winch It'll do 193-198F down the road at 75-80MPH, slow down or idle, or a stop light and it will get back down to 188-193F. I'm going to say the added stuff up front is affecting it's airflow at highway speeds. Still not bad though in my book with what it's carrying up front.
99 D2 stock temp thermostat (tried a 12.00 Ebay Made in Germany Black thermostat because it didn't list the temp. Figured why not try it for 12.00...) It'll go down the road at 204F 75-80MPH, at idle it'll go 209F then drop back down to 204-206F. Funny with the OEM temp thermostat you don't see a big range of temps like the others.
All of these temp readings are with the AC on, and all my LR's are using a 50/50 mix of green coolant.

very true about the OEM stat and the smaller margin of low to high temps. i was at 197ish on highways and it would sit around 203ish around town and 206 at idle. i guess its just been a short time driving around with the new setup and still getting use to its habits. just thought it was a fast climb from 186 to 203 from highway, to off ramp heading to red light and waiting for the light to turn green. lol so i was guessing the fan clutch was just not spinning fast enough at idle or something. well ill leave it alone for now, will do the autozone fan clutch when i do the water pump some time later down the road.

In my neck of the woods it's the exact opposite. Oreillys first off never actually stocks anything, and when I tried to take back a lifetime warranty starter on a Jeep that died it was an act of congress to get it swapped out for a replacement. Auto Zone's around here actually have a good amount of LR parts in stock, and I've returned a few items without a single fuss.
I say buy parts where you're comfortable/used to going be it Napa, Carquest, Advance, Auto Zone, or Oreillys. If it's something I can wait a few days on it's Ebay, Amazon, or Rock Auto.
SAI isn't that big of a deal if you keep it up n running properly. It's only when I valve sticks, a hose melts, or the pump dies that you'll have issues. I've owned 4 SAI equipped D2's and the only issues I had was a hose, and the one little vacuum valve by the throttle body.

is AutoZone's the heavy-duty version, also?
