Default Father sold parts off of my truck... Read THis!!!

BAD thing about your father having a Land Rover Garage...

ok, So anyway a couple of weeks ago was spring break for my area. I had no money, but I talked my parents into giving me $500, But they wouldn't let me drive my Disco, they did say I could drive their 1982 Mercedes 300D or nothing. So I drove that, cause it gets about 30 MPG, so I was happy. So anyway, I went with my GF's family to Destin, Florida and on wednesday night, her mother and I got into an arguement. So i said I was just going go home tomorrow morning, so I pack up the next morning and was on my way. I got to thinking, wow this is the worst spring break ever. I could take a left here and go home OR KEEP GOING THIS WAY AND STAY WITH MY FRIENDS IN PANAMA CITY BEACH, FLORIDA and follow them back Saturday... Being 17, which one do you think I chose??....

That's right, go to PC the biggest Spring break hot spot in the world. Oh my parents were not very happy. But I was good while I was down there, I got my car towed once, and other than that everything was fine. So I got back saturday night and my DISCO is not in the driveway, They told me "it was at the shop, cause It needed a window Regulator for my drivers window ( which was true, they did put a new one of those in ), but it doesn't matter cause your grounded for what you did on spring break, so no land rover for a week". Is pretty much what they said...

~~~THE GOOD PART~~~
So I call my dad when im aloud to pick it up, and he tells me a new customer came today and he needed some work done and that my dad had all the parts in stock, except an Air Mass Meter ( Which they just installed on my truck the day before I left for Spring Break ). So of course my dad says he can order it and have it next day, or he can take the one off of mine. So the guy has no problem with taking mine [:@]. So my dad takes it off of my truck and put it on his...
~~~OH IT GETS BETTER~~~

So i said, "ok thats fine, so you can put one back on my truck within the next couple of days, right??". His response "Well lets see you owe your mother and I $500 for Spring Break, So when you get $500 and pay us back. Until then your truck is going to sit right here, and don't talk back or ill just sell the whole Damn thing"...

Yes, so there are some bad things about your father having a Land Rover shop after all... [:@]

So what are you worried about, just drive the 300D! Sounds like you got off pretty easy to me,I think any parent would have been extremely pissed, it's good to see that your's aren't spoiling you too bad. You probably don't realise it but let me tell you, I have a newly licensed 16 yr old andthey are not easy to deal with. BTW, did you buy your Disco with your own money. If not, then it's your parents and they can do whatever they want with it.

Sucks... I'm 17 too so I know where you are coming from on this one.
But I bought my disco so my parents cant use it as a punishment!
But if they really wanted to they could... I try to stay out of trouble as much as possible, trust goes a looooong freaking way in high school as i'm sure you know!!
Good luck getting that $500 and the disco back... I hate not having it for a few days while its at the shop, not having it while my dad holds it would kiiiill me.

What is the problem here? You borrowed the money to go down to Destin, you went somewhere it sounds like they didn't approve of, your father is trying to make a living andtaking the part off your Rover was part of moving that vehicle and getting a check in hand! So I really don't see ths issue here for you to whine about? Do you have a job? I guess not if you borrowed the money to go to the beach, the solution is to repay the money and then you will get your Rover back, seems pretty simple to me. Don't whine about this because it sounds like your father is trying to teach you responsibility and values which is rare these days, so pay attention!

If your father owns a shop, why don't you "volunteer" to help out with odd jobs for a while. A little butt kissing goes a long way with dads. If my son tried to pay off a debt this way I
might even let him out of it early.

yes/no the truck is mine. My mother and I made a deal and I kept my promise, so her promise was buy me a $6000 car. So yes I did work for the truck, it was not just given to me. The only thing is that I wanted it put under my fathers name for multiple reasons. So I guess it is his to the state, which is why i just have to deal with it.

I have had a job as a waiter since November, gettin about $600 a week. So i was doing pretty good, but i'm homeschooled and I had alot of school work one week and I asked for thursday and friday off,( 2 weeks before spring break ) so I talked to my manager and told him what was going on. He said they made the schedule 2 weeks ago and they cant do anything about it, so I asked everybody to cover a shift but nobody had any extra time. So i had to tell them I would much rather graduate, than earn $150. So im done with that job, and am in the process of lookin for a new one. So anyway here comes spring break and I have $0 saved up, so thats how it all started.

***Also, yes I do little jobs for him every now and then. Im not stupid, he's my father and I help him out anyway I can, even if things arent going my way. I did some yard work today, and now the Debt is $470

Jkid- I see you have a 1982 300SD, my father has a 1986 Mercedes 300SDL and my mother has the 1982 300D. They are great and very reliable cars, I actually have no problem driving them. That is actually what im driving right now.

Still think you are whining, got your Rover taken away but yet I can drive the MB. I thought this was a tech forum not a forum to whine about because I went on spring break!.....still my thought is you should have never gone to the beach then maybe you wouldn't have written (whined) about it here.

just my opionion

X2

I am in the middle of the age groups here, and I don't think you got a bad deal. I bought my first car all on my own and it was in my name. I got a C in trig and the car was in storage for 6 months. Find another job, keep up on your schoolwork, and call your parents before you head to the beach next time.

I do hope you get your Disco back soon, though.

Cheers

HoustonDM,

I never had my ride taken away but I know when I was your age having it in the shop, even for half a day, caused major separation anxiety. It wouldn't have mattered if I had a new Ferrari to drive because it wasn't my car. I don't feel like you are whining or your post is inappropriate. You have a Land Rover problem and, in my opinion, the worst Land Rover problem of all. We all love our Rovers and can certainly empathize so I for one feel your pain. None of us can say your dad was wrong or "that's messed up" because we just don't have the right. We're not your parents and don't really know all the complexities of the situation. All parents deal with things differently and I'm sure yours have a reason for handling this the way that they have. I'm sure you've heard this before but you're lucky to have parents that care. If they didn't they would take the easy way out and just let you do whatever the hell you wanted and not say a thing.

If you and your father are at an impasse regarding the use of your Rover I would say you need to sit down and talk with him about it man to man. Maturely and rationally explain your side of the story and why you disagree with the punishment and then listen to what he has to say. Really listen and try to understand where he is coming from. Even if things don't end up going your way at least you will be able to understand and respect his decision. Sometimes it was hard to get my father to actually listen to where I was coming from but by having a mature and rational conversation we were usually able to see each others side and come to a compromise. We all make rash judgments from time to time and if this was one on his part who knows, you may just win your appeal.
