Fault code P1193 anyone?
Greetings All,
I have been stumped by this code 1193 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Open Downstream
I am hoping someone has crossed paths with it.
So I have a 98 Disco with 97K on it, do most of the work on it myself. Well the check engine indicator came on about a month ago, I checked it, logged the code and erased it from memory to see if it would pop on again. Well it did and I erased it again to see if it was a true fault meaning the two fault system / or a couple start ups, and it didn't. This is my problem.... A. the fault seems to like to screw with me and not play the normal fault games - it comes back on after a week or two of driving the thing everyday!?! B. i have yet to see much about P1193 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Open Downstream in rover litterature, but I am guessing it could be a bad cat or cats and not the o2 sensor itself.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Matthew

RE: Fault code P1193 anyone?
i would start by tracing wiring, make sure it is not messed up, then remover o2 sensors and inspect, if they look real bad it's prolly problem, if not too bad hit them with some wd-40 (the end in the pipe) clear code and see if it works. It takes a while of driving to set a code off. You have to go thru what is called a drive cycle. The computer will thro a pending code, which you will not see, then after it does drivability tests, like WOT, cruise speed, start-stop, and a few others then it will decide to thro the code and a check engine light.

Dog,
Heater codes generally are not set by bad cats. They can be difficult to diag. Usually intermittent. First, check both post cat O2 sensor connectors for corrosion and/or backed out terminals. Then buy one new post cat sensor and swap in, save old one. Clear codes and drive. If it comes back then switch out. This should rectify the issue.
You can't 'look' at A O2 sensor and determine if it is defective.

Well my problem fixed itself!?! I went to a meeting the check engine light was on then left the meeting and it was off. So it's either the bulb when out or I need to take all my cars when that light goes on to that mistery spot! If anybody wants to know where it is it will cost you $10. lol
