favorite octane booster?

RE: favorite octane booster?
ORIGINAL: Switzer
Sherwin Williams.
Buy a gallon or two of either Toluene or Xylene. Just add a drop or two of oil and pour it in the gas tank. Depending on how much gas you already have in there it will boost your octane significantly. I did this with my two turbocharged Eclipse cars.
Cheers,
Pete

The recipe is at the bottom of this page:
http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/octanebooster.html
One more:
http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html
The Sherwin Williams application is for paint thinning, but it is essentially a liquid hydrocarbon just like gasoline (toluene or xylene).
Cheers,
Pete

RE: favorite octane booster?
I do not use it in my Rover. I used it in my turbocharged cars to run extra boost at the track. Toluene and xylene are already ingredients in the gas you buy at the local gas station. What you get at the gas station is a mix (sometimes ethanol) of ingredients to produce a certain octane. Federal regulations mean there are dozens of different mixes depending on where you live and what season it is.
This blend will not hurt your engine, however, it will hurt your pocket book if you do it every day.

Pete

RE: favorite octane booster?
It will shorten the life of your O2's. In the right % it is a good injector cleaner,I talked to a chemist last year when I first heard about this on another forum and he debunked it.
If you use to much you will kill the O2's, to little and no benifit. The problem is that you have no idea how much is left in yout gas tank from the last time you put it in.

RE: favorite octane booster?
Toluene is already in the gas you buy, you are just adding more percentage of it to your tank. Nothing will be left behind since you are adding gasoline to gasoline. In this case what you are adding is a pure hydrocarbon with a higher octane rating. Leaded gasoline or race gas containing additives would hurt your cats, not toluene.
