Default Fender Flares - Refinish or Remove

The fender flares on my 2004 Discovery are fading and in need of a repaint or removal. I keep flip flopping on which way I want to go.

Repainting:
-Keeps Factory Styling
-Will look great compared to the faded flares that are currently installed.
-Removing them may look odd to future buyers

Removing:
-Saves me from all that fun prep/painting
-Cleaner look
-Loose that 1" +/- protection of mud/dirt flipping up from the tires (currently running 33's)

I loved the look of them missing on my silver D2, and I liked the naked look on all my D1’s.

When I get the 3M stripper wheel I’m removing them from my 99 D2.

You forgot bacon on the poll, I fixed it for you

It boils down to your preference honestly. I prefer them with the flares.

I was going to permanently remove them from my Kalahari because the finish was really bad but during the process of removal: I found the adhesive tape pullrd a couple spots of clear coat. So I contemplated the wider terrafirma flares but opted to stay stock. I pulled off a nice set at the local pullapart and refinished them with bumper paint and reapplied with 3m 1/4" wide trim tape. Removing the remains of the adhesive tape from the body was tedious but not half as bad as removing the rest from the flares. If yours are not too bad and can be salvaged with a fresh coat of bumper paint: I would go that route and paint them in place. They can be easily masked off and resprayed.

It's a personal preference issue. I am going to remove mine and have ordered a wheel to clean up afterwards having had them turn to a 'sandpaper' surface twice now. Problem with painting them is they become yet another maintenance item.

I think it depends on the color of the rest of the car as well. I like them removed on my black D2. But my white one doesn't look right without them.

Id like to see a pic of your white one without them. I was thinking of doing this to my rig....

X2. The 3M wheel is key. NOTHING ELSE WORKS BETTER OR AS FAST.
