A few more questions
First off, I'm working on a 2001 Disco II. It has 78,000 miles and I have completed most of the updates, PM as recommended by Mike.
Now I have a few questions about other stuff that I am thinking of working on.
1.) I am experiencing the delayed response to input to the windshield wiper switch. From reading the old posts it looks like I need a new stalk. The question is can that be changed without removing the steering wheel and airbags? The shop manual says to take all of that off, but figured that I would ask before tackling that task on the outside chance that it can be changed without all that.
2.) The ride is a bit rough and I think I probably need to replace the shocks and/or shocks and springs. Again, after reading the old posts, it appears that if I install one of the OME kits, the new springs and shocks would add ~1 1/2 inch to the ride height. When checking the British Atlantic catalog, I see the OME kit, but I also see a set of Bilstein shocks. I have had good results from using them in the past and am wondering if anyone has tried the OME springs and the Bilstein shocks?
3) The cruise control stopped working in one of those now it works, now it doesn't deals, so I am suspecting the switch behind the brake pedal that I read about in some old posts. Any suggestions on how to find that puppy? I took a quick look up behind the pedal and didn't see anything. Now admittedly it has been cold and nasty lately so I didn't spend a lot of time doing that
I have put about 2500 miles on it so far and am really happy with the truck. Indeed like one members signature, they are high maintenance vehicles, but so nice a ride.
Thanks,
Wayne

1) According to RAVE manual, the steering wheel has to be removed to replace the wiper switch. Make sure to disconnect the negative battery cable before trying to remove the airbag module. The manual says wait 10 minutes prior to starting work but I have always waited an hour to make sure the airbag is completely discharged. Unfortunately I don't know of a way to replace the stalks without removing the steering wheel.
2) I have heard a lot of good reports about Bilsteins shocks although I have never used them personally. I assume the Bilsteins you are referring to are the 7100s. Bilsteins are nice because they are rebuildable but for the extra cost you can replace the OME shocks a couple times. If you don't think that rebuilding shocks is something you'll be doing, save the money and go with the OME. Most people use the OME shocks with OME springs. The OME springs will add ~1.5" over the stock ride height. More than likely your factory springs have settled some so you'll probably end up about 2" higher than your current height.
3) Most Disco cruise problems are vacuum leaks. Have you checked all the hoses to make sure there are no cracks? The brake switch is pretty easy to find. Remove the cardboard filler panel below the dash and the switch is pressing against the front side of the brake pedal. It is right below your brake light switch. Both switches share a common bracket. I replaced the brake switch for the cruise in my 97 and it didn't fix the problem with mine.
