Default Final Straw....

Welp. I have owned the now 'infamous' 99 Disco II for over 2 months now and have only put less than 20 miles on it.

I have changed:

Water Pump
Thermostat
Head Gasket
Head Bolts
A/C Condensor Fan
Engine Fan
Couple of hoses

and had checked:
Radiator
Heads

So, I have to do the worse - well 2nd worse thing, worse being to sell it, and that is to have it towed to the dealer....

It just WILL NOT stop overheating!!

I live 2 1/2 hours from where it is parked (at a family members house) and the nearest LR dealer is in Peoria (20 miles from the Rover - almost 3 hours from me!!) and they are ONLY open on weekdays which makes life that much more fun!

I will get it to them next Thursday and they will do an engine test and probably pressure flush the coolant out.

I am hoping they find out why it is still overheating. I cannot think of anything else to do except replacing the engine.....

We shall see!!

Why a Dealer, that is by far the worst thing you could do.
Just find a shop and have them do both a coolant pressure test and a chemical block test, this will tell you all you need to know.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear:

Where my car is parked - there is NOTHING in a 50 mile radius that knows ANYTHING about Land Rovers.

If it were up here in Chicago - it would be a different story.

I HAVE to go to the stealership - I have no choice!!!

Also, they are pretty cheap (believe it or not) compared to the LR Dealerships up here in Chicago.

I'd borrow a buddy's full size truck and rent a trailer to haul it to someone I trust to work on it. Dealerships are clueless (IMHO). I just had mine in the body shop for a nose job and it took LR Indianapolis more than a week to respond to the request for parts and then I had to wait for them to order the stuff. Left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. And so much more appreciation for AB and the other suppliers we all trust.

We had a disco two do the same thing and after every part in the world minus a radiator, we cleaned out the radiator and cleaned out the lines with a hose worked like a charm.

OK - had it towed to the Stealership and they ran the chemical test for exhaust in the coolant - and... there is exhaust in the coolant.

He said there is most likely one - if not two sleeves that either went bad or dropped - and he would know which ones for $550... I said 'if you know that the sleeves are bad - why waste the time pulling heads (again)?'

He offered to replace the engine for $3600 - but I told him I can get an engine at a fraction of that price and do it myself....

So - I guess the mystery is over and now I have to go shopping for an engine.
Thankfully I have a fully loaded garage that I can do this at.....
