Default Finally found a 04 Discovery HSE7 but have questions???

I am going to pick up what appears to be an unmolested 04 Land Rover Discovery Wednesday AM. It has 104k mileage and is fairly straight and clean. Problem is that it doesn't start. I am getting told it will turn over, every once in a while start but then it will die after about 20 seconds (guess this is the time period for the system to cycle). I was thinking CPS or IAC. After reading about head gaskets I'm getting a little nervous. Doesn't sound like the owner is too knowledgeable on these cars. I will check the oil when I get there for coolant and vice versa. Ill run pressure test in coolant system. Is there ANY other tests I can perform to narrow down that HG's are not the culprit?

Thanks Gentlemen!

Regards,
John

Buy it cheap enough and it’ll be worth it. Even if the HGs are bad. It’s not a bad thing that the current owner may not know much…Chloe had a misfire that the PO couldn’t figure out after a basic plug change. She was in beautiful condition. I talked him down to $2500……$600 later she was running smooth as a kitten.

Do your due diligence and you might get a screaming deal.

Good luck!

HG will not cause the dying condition. That is likely a CPS based on your description although it could be a fuel pump pressure issue. You can borrow a fp gauge from O'reilly and test it on site if you want, shoudl be around 55 psi. If it runs rough and then dies, try unplugging the MAF.

A bad vacuum leak can also cause issues with a rough idle, but not starting is either low fuel PSI or a faulty CPS as mentioned above.

Deuchebag texted me at 12:30 at night before i was supposed to be heading out to meet him and "decided" to not sale the Disco. After we reserved hotel rooms, etc. TOld him that i expected engine codes and im not worried, then he came back with i cant in good conscience sell you a lemon. I replied, Im buying it knowing it needs work and potential head gaskets. He didnt respond and then removed the listing. I told him that something told me he was gonna be a chooch, to which he responded he was glad i was losing all the money for hotels and serves me right. What as *** clown! Anyways....STILL LOOKING FOR 04 HSE7 fully loaded, if you have one or see one for sale please let me know. I will Travel for the deal, just do not want any rust. Thanks guys

sounds like the seller saw what other D2s are selling for and decided to repost it with a higher selling price.

keep your eyes open for it and you can warn people away.

also, what's a Deuchebag? is that a German wallet?
