Finally got some work done today changed plugs, bye bye rough idle.
My truck has had a rough/high idle for a couple months now. The cheap autolite platinums only had 35,000 on them. They still looked pretty good when I removed them, the gaps were fine as were the electrodes. There was not even any fouling or soot (which is nice to see). I guess it was just their time. I used NGK iridiums this time around and it has made a nice difference, idle is back down to 750rpms and the roughness at 1000rpms is gone. I'm sure I would have got the same results with copper champions but at least these should last longer than 35,000 miles, hopefully double that.
A helpful hint for anyone doing this job, get a couple flex head ratchets, a long 1/2" for breaking the plug loose and a 3/8" for winding it off and putting the new one in. They really make the job simple and you do not need to unhook anything to get to the plugs. Also when you are installing the new plugs thread them in by hand until they are hand tight, wiggling them while you are tightening ensures you don't bugger up the threads.
Next up engine mounts, then ATF change, new fog lamp and turning signal assembly. At least the truck keeps me occupied.
