Default Finished Head Gasket Job - Thanks!!

So I just finished the head gasket job, bled the coolant, bled the PAS fluid and put the hood on. It started on the second crank. I got a bit freaked out when the engine started to smoke but then I figured out that it was all the PB Blaster and WD40 burning off of all the bits and pieces. The truck now runs like a dream and is nice and quiet and more importantly no coolant pouring out of the cylinder head. Thanks to all who helped!

Here is a lowdown of costs and time spent for anyone interested in DIY (or stuck with no dough to pay a proper mechanic):

Tools: $120
I needed to buy a smaller torque wrench, a good metric impact driver set, a wobble extension set, an impact extension set, bad bolt extraction set, and a few other odds and ends. I had a fairly good selection of tools beforehand though.

Parts: $348
Atlantic British head gasket kit (Includes all gaskets and O rings etc): $160
Cylinder head bolt set: $80
Thermostat: $16
Auxiliary belt: $32
2 hoses: $34
S&H: $20
APV Gasket Sealant: $6

Fluids: $49
Coolant: $20
PAS Fluid: $4
6 quarts Mobile 1 oil and oil filter: $45

Planing Cylinder Heads: $75

Grand total cost: $592

Total Est. Time: 32 hours

I really took my time because before this I had no clue as far as engine work went. The Rave CD was a life saver.

Again thanks to all who helped along the way and if anyone has any questions let me know.

Question! if before you did the head Gasket it gurgled in the cooling system, does it gurgle now that you did the work, mine still gurgles a bit but I havent bled out the system myself, i had a guy do it who wasnt familiar with the Disco.

It did not gurgle before that I noticed (my leak was slow before I induction cleaned it) but did gurgle when I added the coolant before I bled the system. Bleeding is easy just unhook the expansion tank elevate it up on the battery cover then loosen the plastic bleed screw on the top hose (where the 3 hoses come together above the radiator). Add coolant, stop when coolant flows from the bleed valve. Tighten the valve put the tank back and top it off.

No I did not hear that after, I did before though, sounds like you need a new thermostat, I replaced mine.

I go by the Rave CD so if it says raise it I do. The higher you get the tank above the bleed port the better.

Glad to hear you finished up the job. I just wanted to remind you, you can power scrub that entire engine compartment, now that it is all greasy, and it will look like brand new, water doesn't hurt a D2 like it does with the D1's.
Now it sounds like it is time for you to go wheeling.

Yeah I'm going to take it up to Lake Placid next month. I actually cleaned as I went along so things are pretty clean. I will give it a power wash though.

Well, Thank God you have finished the dirty job on your Cylinder head. I think you've wasted too much money on that one. Just want to ask if there are any cylinder head dowel pins included on the package?

That's an odd comment. Nothing like taking a pot hot at someone and then asking for help. Call AB and ask them, my leftovers are all the way on the other side of the room. If anyone wants them they are welcome to them.

I just finished my hg job last week and there were no dowels in the kit. So, Greg Duncan, where did he spend too much money, because my parts bill was similar?
