Had an incident late 2020 where a vehicle slammed into the guard rail protecting my house, we live on a mountain and it's a steep hill and sharp turn, vehicle caught fire and I was able to grab a fire extinguisher and empty it into the engine bay within a minute of the accident.
Used First Alert household fire extinguisher and it barely slowed the spread, used second one and it did nothing as the fire was larger nom, hah to run back to house to get second fire extinguisher.
Car was engulfed in flames within minutes and a total loss. Fortunately, nobody was injured in either the crash or fire, but I was massively disappointed in the performance of the fire extinguishers.
In my Disco I have an interior mounted fire extinguisher mounted on the driver's seat panel, one mounted on the interior of the rear door, and one mounted on the roof rack over the driver side door. (This is not the first fire I've fought, just the first where I lost)
I need to replace the one mounted outside on the roof rack with one more capable of handling an engine fire. I figured people on this board may have some good ideas on a new fire extinguisher, so please let me know what you think.
I saw the element fire extinguisher listed at ExpeditionExchange but haven't looked into them in depth. My first impression was they were for small fires, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Here is their website, I have no affiliation with them

Large number of mounting options and the size means they can be mounted in many places and weicht isn't an issue. Thanks for the suggestion
I'll check out the YouTube videos.
I would think it depends on what your fire extinguisher is rated for. A Halotron® 1 fire extinguisher might be a better option for a vehicle. Halotron is non-conductive, non-corrosive, and leaves behind no residue. https://blog.koorsen.com/co2-fire-ex...-extinguishers
I have a Element mounted under the driver's seat. The VW guys like the Blazecut which is a cool self releasing extinguisher that you mount under the hood and releases off of heat. Might be the only one that reacts quick enough to catch some engine fires. https://www.blazecutusa.com/
