Default first day of ownership and i have a issue

i cannot get the thing in gear. it is stuck in park.

this did not happen during test drives or when i stopped for gas on the way home last night after dropping off the girlfriend.

but after i had left the girls house i went to the store. when i went to leave it would not go into reverse. after several attempts it did but only after i opened the driver door and pushed the rig forward with my left leg and "rocked" it off whatever notch that holds the gear shift.

got home and parked in my driveway like always. then i realized that i am parked on a slope,,,,

guess what? it will not get out of park and it is on a slope that i cannot push or inch it up.

what do i do?

what year discovery? Make sure you're pressing the gear shift release button on top of the shifter and have your foot on the brake.

Welcome to Rover ownership. It is a love hate relationship.
IF it is because of the slope then you will need to use both hands to pull it out of park.
It is most likly the brake light switch, a little switch that goes on the back of the brake pedal, you push the brake pedal in and the switch releases the transmission neutral saftey switch, as well as the cruise control and other brake related functions.
But since you just bought it I would call the dealer and have them come and get the truck and fix it, for free of course.
Next time you park on a slope set the parking brake before you put it into park.

love hate....I love it and my wife can't stand it

It is normal to have gremlins to shake off in the first few months of ownership. And if you're lucky, you're single.

In the last year I put about $500 on it cause I changed all doors actuators. Other than that everything's been done for over a year now. but still, at the littlest thing ( couldn't get the heated windshield to work and other stuff easily fixeable)she can't stop bitching and asking when I'll get rid of that piece of **** and blah blah blah[:'(]

well the dealer is 90min away and not a rover dealer. i will make the call and see what they say about it. luckily there is a land rover, jag, mg,triumph shop in the same town my office is. i will go in and talk to them about it. how tuff is this switch the replace? if its easy peesy they i will just do it myself. but tonight i will use my F250 and a tow rope to pull the LR a inch to release the brake. sucks cause we were gonna take it to the mountains for the weekend

hahahaha thats funny.

it makes sense that the switch would not allow the tranny to function considering it is a electronic tranny.

Yep there is, the previous owner took care of that. I can shift through the gears without pressing the brakes. Pretty handy when you need to move the vehicle a little in the garage. I just open the door shift to N and move it. I think that this 'mod' takes place under the shifter console.
