Unhappy first head gasket job... still hot..

Hey guys, I just completed my first head gasket job, got everything put back together tonight, filled with fluids, and started it up. Sounded extremely good and smooth. Ran great for about 3-4 minutes at around 2,000 rpm and started to warm up. It got to desired running temp, rpm slowed to around 12-1300 and held there for two or three minutes. Then it started heating up....

I let it go up past where it should normally be and let it approach the 3/4 line but never letting it get that far, I shut it off.

No knocking, ticking, or any other odd noises came from the motor at anytime. I did have a lot of burn off from spilt oil etc., but that was expected.

It was very hot and still burning off spilt oil so I didn't get a great look at it, however, I did notice one small hose running from top of radiator to reservoir was loose and leaking some coolant. I tightened that up and called it a night.

Not sure that small leak from the one hose could cause it to run hot?

Any insight as to where I should go from here would be helpful.

You can rent a pressure tester from autozone to check if the system is holding pressure.

Make sure your thermostat is opening, and coolant is being pulled through the radiator.

X2,000 on bleed. Tighten hose clamps. Recheck belt routing and oil fill level. Congrats on the hg job. Get a temp reader. Ultragauge or the like. Temp needle is useless and can be dangerous.

I'll grab a pressure tester and temp reader today. I checked the hoses quickly this morning but will go back over every thing again. I'll be honest, it was late when I was finishing up last night and I may have rushed the final bit.<br />Will let you guys know what I can find out. Hopefully get this resolved soon!

Hypothetically...
A radiator restricted with sediments caused overheating that caused a head gasket blown and ended replacing head gaskets... No, did not end there.
If your radiator is the same with the same problem, the 'fun' cycle may repeat again.

Get An Ultra gauge asap. Double check your thermostat is connected correctly. Make sure your belt is on correctly too. Bleed system by the book. If your not running an ultra gauge or similar your gonna end up doing a HG job all over again.
