Hi all,

I foolishly left my truck off the battery tender for a couple of weeks. Battery went completely flat, to the point where I had to trickle charge it to get a regular charger to even recognise that there was a battery there.
Everything is back up and running now, except for the key fobs. I have three, and the truck won't respond to any of them. They were working fine when I parked the truck, so I can only assume that the battery dying is what caused the problem.
Do I need to reprogram them as if they were new keys to get them working again?

 

That's a weird one. I've not had that problem, despite being in the same predicament before. I agree it's likely a problem in the truck, the only thing that comes to mind is pull the battery out of a fob and put it back in. Maybe disconnect the truck battery for a half hour and reconnect? Interested to hear how you fix it.

 

Changing around the batteries in the fobs didn't change anything. Nor did putting in fresh ones. I will try disconnecting the truck battery though.

 

I've had that happen leaving mine sit. I don't remember exactly what happened to get the fobs working but I believe the fob receiver basically went to sleep. I might have had to lock and unlock with the key after the battery was charged again, or lock/unlock with the with the dash button.

 

Yep has happened to me on at least 2 different D2's.

All have sat for extended periods, Dead battery. However -- Usually when you put the key in the door, unlock the doors, then start the car / ignition cycle with the key it resets something apparently in the security function of the BCU / w the RF receiver, and the fobs work again. Have you tried that?

 

I've physically unlocked/locked the doors and driven the vehicle numerous times since recharging the battery, with no change. Haven't tried the lock/unlock using the panel button though, and haven't had a chance to try disconnecting the battery yet.
Nice to know that the problem has resolved itself for others though. I don't have access to a Nanocom, and my Hawkeye isn't patched for key programming.

 

Well, locking and unlocking with the interior button doesn't fix anything. Doesn't even turn on the alarm -- it just locks the doors. That makes sense if you remember that some models had interior volumetric sensors as part of the alarm system.
I will try disconnecting the battery for a few hours this weekend.

 

Update: disconnected the battery for about an hour. Reconnected, and now everything is back to normal.
Weird.

 

Weird but good news.

 

If I had to guess I'd say that as the battery was being recharged and the voltage stabilized, the different computers came online and something didn't sync properly.
