Default Fog light question

I have a 2000 DII SD and did not come with factory fog lights in the front bumper. The fog light switch illuminates when I push it even though there are no lights attached. Does that mean that it has been pre-wired and the connections are all ready?

I want to mount some fog lights on my brush guard so any insight on how to make the installation go more smoothly and quickly is appreciated.

TIA

Actually the switch that illuminates now is for your rear fog lights as all Discovery II's have them. I say this as it sounds like yours is a SD model without the factory fog lamps. BP of Utah makes a kit for installing factory front fog lights in a front Bumper cover. If you only have one for light switch it is most likely for the rears.

I actually have a separate switch for the rear fog lights that is operational that is on the bottom of the switch cluster. I have another switch on the top that lights up but does not turn anything on.

I know my SD which did not come with factory fog lights has all the wiring there, even at the the front bumper. I have read here that if not factory equipped you will need to go to the dealer and have the ECU enabled for them to turn on, or others have bought a cruise control switch and changed the front face and that does not require a dealer ECU reprogram. I'm sure a senior member will help out. I plan on putting fog lights on my SD soon so as yet can't share my experience. But the wiring should be there.

Thanks, texmbr, that's good info. Does the wiring terminate behind the front bumper cover where the fog lights would normally be?

I just bought an extra foglight switch to add lights to my SD roof rack....maybe I should have bought a cruise control switch instead

The dealer told me that the earlier D2's (1999-2000) don't require a reprogram of the BCU. The wiring is there so you can add fog lights.... and even a heated windshield... assuming you have the proper equipment, switches, and relays.

That's good news if I ever decide to get a heated windshield upgrade. That would mean only having to buy the windshield and a switch. awesome!

Just to confirm I went and looked and I do have the wires there behind the location where fog lights would be. I also have the wires in place for heated windshield. Many have the wireing in place for heated seats but no switches...just install the switches and you have em but only for leather seats. Heater elements already in the seats. My duragrain non leather seats don't have the elements.

It's still a gamble on the heated seats. I added the switch pack only to find out that both the heater elements are bad. Kind of expected that with 186kmi and worn out seats. I may fix those this summer.... don't feel like ripping my seats out in this weather. I might add the fog lights if I can find them at a good price. All the ones at the junk yard are gone.

Hey, thanks for all of the great information everyone.

I looked under my truck as well and found some wires behind the passenger side bumper cover where the fog lights would normally be. Is that where you saw yours txmbr?

I'm hoping that I just need to plug into that and I'm good to go.....
