Foglight Switch
For example, you can’t plug the hazard light switch into the rear defroster switch as there are tabs to keep you from doing so- even though there are similar prongs on the harness and switch. The same applies to the cluster surround to keep you from plugging in the windshield washer to the fog light or similar.
The point I’m trying to make is in order to make it truly plug and play you will need a couple things:
- A clipped harness that plugs into a cruise control switch
- A fog light cover
This is what mine looked like when I did lights for the brush guard, rack, and reverse lights via cruise control switches and clipped harnesses:

You can see I just put one of the OEM front fog light covers on upside down. On that side it was top to bottom, OEM front fog lights, OEM rear fog lights, my added on brush guard lights, and my added on rack lights.
This is the other side:

The bottom switch is the same as the other side, except that side is for the reverse lights I hooked up.
On each of the switches I added, those were cruise control switches with OEM fog light switch COVERS on them. Each of them also had clipped cruise control switch harnesses that I wired to my own harness into a relay box that I built. They even lit up just like OEM switches for when the lights came on and were attached to the dimmer.
That was a lot of work, but more simple probably than I’m making it sound. I’m a bit of a nut about wiring, but in my opinion that is the cleanest way to do it.
Probably should have mentioned, each of the switches (buttons) on the cluster surround are basically the same in many ways, but much like the switch pod to the left of the HVAC control unit on the dash, although the plugs all look similar, they have specific configurations to make sure you don’t plug the wrong thing into the wrong place. The only difference between the cluster surround switches is some of them are toggle and some are momentary. The cruise control switch is the latter, which is why it is a very simple one to use.

some switches are momentary contact and some are locking contact. you can't just swap them out if different and expect them to work. Also, the OEM harness plugs are switch specific. the fog light switch is momentary and triggers a circuit in the BCU. These do not usually go bad. As far a changing the switch internals, it is possible but very difficult. You can switch out the buttons more easily, to get left or right sided buttons (they are different) and of course you have to match the LEDs to button holes if you want to see it light up. Also, hooking these switches up wrong will fry the LED......they are ground activating switches AFAIK in the OEM harness, but you can rewire them as POS or NEG activating if you pay attention to the RAVE wiring diagrams and use your own new separate relay control.
for example, if you want to run the rear wiper via a new separate relay, you could use the latching switch out of the cruise control, you just need to get another harness connector out of junk yard
if you want to use a momentary switch with LED and new separate latching circuit, you could use the OEM fog light switch. here is a wiring diagram and parts you need...

So the rear fog light I dont care about unless I hook up some realy good leds..i hooked up fogs in front ..... So I seen I can splice the Cruz control . where the fog light button is...is that what you are saying ? And I may be able to take the rear windshild wiper wiper or rear fog light wires to new meds in case I want them .. Basicly want the front fogs to go on and dont have time to be Anil about all.the thing I want to do.... even tho I want to....herrican Ida fuc up my house.. so basicly splice it in or what ?
....................I am starting to understand .. I sanded parts of the foglight plug and I almost got the thing to fit.... I am not able to swap the covers without breaking it
