Rear Wiper Washer Switch Question
After months of searching, I am finally the proud owner of a '04 Disco. It is in great shape and has 58k miles on it (just in time for the 60k scheduled maintenance).
The light bulb for the rear window washer was not working, so I pulled out the switch to see if I could replace the bulb. To my surprise, the switch was not connected to anything. I pulled the cover off of the dash and could not find the connector that this switch would plug into. I did not have much time to look, but I have got to believe that the connector is there somewhere. Wouldn't you expect it to be part of the harness that connects the other switches in this switch bank?
This bank of switches on the right side of the steering wheel contains four switches: 1) Rear wiper wash, 2) Rear wiper, 3) Cruise control, 4) Blank. The bottom "blank" did have a connector and was connected to the wiring harness. What is this? I would assume it is some sort of cabin sensor?
I looked around online and did find a picture of an HSE that had a switch fitted in that lowest position with a head-light type icon and the number "2" on it. So that made me wonder if this bottom blank is a place holder for another set of front auxillary lights? However, this HSE did not have any auxillary lights...
Finally, I also assume the bulbs in these switches are replaceable? If so, how does one open up the switches? Are the bulbs soldered or socketed?
Thanks,
Jon

Your rear wipers should be connected, not sure what the extra switch is wires to, you will need to see if there is any after market light using that switch.
Might try starting the truck and turning on that switch at night to see what it turns on.
Will you be doing the 60K, you should, so you become more familiar with the truck and save a lot of money. Look at the sticky I have posted at the top of this section and do it all including installing new 8 mm silicone wires, like Magnacor's and either rebuilding or replacing the front drive shaft before it fails and takes out your tranny.

Mike -- thanks for the advice. For clarification, that bottom device is NOT a switch. I cannot turn it on and off. Looking at it from the front of the dash, it just looks like a blank cover. That is why I was surprised when I saw that it was connected to some wires.
I'll try to get in there again shortly and see if I can make some sense out of it.

OK -- I got it figured out. It actually was pretty easy. The bottom slot of the switch bank was indeed filled with a "blank". The connector for the wiper washer switch was placed in the back of this blank where it appeared to actually be connected to it. I simply pulled it out of the blank and hooked it to the correct switch. All is well now!
So -- are the bulbs in these switches easy to replace when they burn out?
