Default Front Drive Shaft Fear

Hello all, this rebuilding of the front drive shaft with greasable joints, etc has really got me concerned. I have owned a 2000 Disco2 with 108K miles, runs and sounds good, NO warning lights on , all O2 sensors and mass air flow replaced, coil packsge, etc.. We just got back from running the roads over to Boone, North Carolina and put over 300 miles on it today. Drove like a champ.Anyway, I presume it is easy to tell if the drive shafts have been replaced?? Anyone have any pics to show after this has been done? Appreciate any advice.

Just crawl under the truck and check or zerk fittings on each u-joint. If you have them the shaft has been replaced already just make sure you grease every fitting. If not then you are on borrowed time, these shafts usually fail around 70k.

Like he said, look for the grease fittings (zerks) on the double-cardon joint. It's the double set of u-joints on the front driveshaft attached toward to the transfer case\transmission. Also, with that many miles you probably want to check the rotoflex rubber doughnut, on the rear driveshaft, for wear.

You will get dirty, but like Goose said, feel around the funny looking ends of the driveshafts. Feel around for a nipple, here is a pic of a u-joint, in the middle of the snap rings is the nipple that you will be looking/feeling around for.
It screws into the middle of the u-joint, it only sticks out about a 1/4 inch.

Make sure they get greased at every oil change.

Can someone post pictures? I have a 2000 Disco with 76k. I am scared that my car is going to fail. I don't even know what the driveshaft looks like. Can someone provide more detail?

Just get your rebuilt... If you post your location, maybe someone can point you to a good shop!

This is what the front driveshaft on a DII looks like.
Just take the truck to a shop and have them look for the grease nipples.

Rebuilds can be around $200-$300. Here's a picture of the rebuilt double cardon..
