Default Front Drive shaft removal

Anyone know of any issues I may have if I remove the front drive shaft and drive my Disco for a couple of days? I purchased a '99 Disco 2 recently that has 77k miles on it. Not long after I got it I noticed a chirping sound coming from underneath, particularily when accelerating. I got on this forum and noticed that this is a common problem. I inspected the front shaft and found some major damage in the "Hookes joint". I've ordered a new one but it wont be here for a couple of days. I need to drive to work but I am worried about this ticking time bomb that will go off when I least expect it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Did you actuall damage the double cardon or the 2 u-joints inside? If you only damages the u-joints you can rebuild it and save your self a bunch of money.
Yes you can remove the front shaft, you will have to engage your CDL on the t/case so you can drive with the rear shaft only. If yo don't know where that is, send me your e-mail address and I'll send you a picture.

Thanks Mike. There isdamage to the double cardon portion. I had considered just rebuilding the u-joints, but the section that is welded to the shaft itself has pieces broken off. Please send me a pic of the CDL and the area that you are talking about, to: hookerpat@yahoo.com . I'm pretty sure that I can figure it out, but it wont hurt just to be sure. I have the service manual on disc also. Thanks for the help and advice. Pat

It is not advised if you are running a rotoflex. It also can only be done with a truck with CDL and as already mentioned there is no mileage benefit to doing it.
